Finish lift is a common occurrence and you should not be alarmed. When a hardwood floor has been affected by a water loss the finish has been compromised. Some of the finish in the affected area may lift, crack, scale or turn hazy. In addition, when you secure your hardwood floor drying panels to the floor with tape it is possible the tape will lift some of the finish. It is best to inform the homeowner and insurance adjuster ahead of time that this is a possibility and inform them that even if visible damage does not present itself, part of the repair process to bring the floor back to a pre-existing/pre-loss condition is a sand and refinish or at least a screen an recoat.
Even when a brand new hardwood floor in perfect condition has been flooded, it is necessary to at least screen and recoat it. With that said, there are still several advantages of drying the affected flooring rather than removing and replacing it, which would involve applying finish to the newly installed floor regardless. Injectidry offers webinars to any parties involved to discuss the details of drying and restoring the flooring versus removal and replacement. Over the past decade we have had the pleasure of hosting webinars for hundreds of adjusters, restoration contractors and property management companies.
